JobScanner is not open to the public yet and takes no payments. These terms are accurate about what the software does today and have not been reviewed by a lawyer. Before this service is offered to anyone commercially they need legal review, refund and availability wording, and a published legal notice (Impressum). If you are reading this as an early user: you are using unfinished software run by one person.
What this service does
JobScanner collects job postings from employers' own applicant-tracking systems and from public job feeds, judges them against the CV and preferences you give it, and ranks the ones that pass in a queue of your own. You can also add a job by pasting its link: one on those systems, or on the Bundesagentur für Arbeit's job search, is read from that system, and, where the add page offers it, one on any other web page is read from that page, once, by this server. A person here checks a job a member adds before anybody else can see it, unless it is on an employer page the service already reads (under Jobs you add). It does not write applications, and it does not apply for you. You apply yourself, wherever the posting says to, and this service sends nothing of yours to an employer. Pressing I applied on a job records that you did, so you can keep track of what you sent.
What it is not
It is not immigration advice. The service shows whether an employer appears on a public register of visa sponsors and what a published salary threshold is. That is information taken from public sources, not advice about your case, and nobody here is qualified or authorised to give you advice about your case. For that, speak to a regulated immigration adviser or a lawyer.
The register information can be wrong. Registers are published as spreadsheets, employer names in postings do not match register names reliably, and a company that gained a licence last week may still read as absent here. On a measurement of this system's own corpus, roughly one in ten fresh UK employers was matched incorrectly. Treat a "not a sponsor" flag as a reason to check, never as a reason not to apply.
It is not legal, tax or financial advice, and it does not promise you a job. No system that reads job postings can.
Your account
You need an email address you control and a password. Keep the password to yourself; anyone who has it can read your CV and your application history. Upload only your own CV — a CV is somebody's personal data, and uploading another person's makes you responsible for having had the right to.
You answer for what you type into your CV on this site, as you do for a CV you upload. The service records which lines under a job, project, study or certificate you typed. It does not check that what you type is true, so make sure it is before you send that CV to anyone.
One account per person. Do not use the service to collect postings in bulk for another product, or to have this server read pages in bulk, and do not try to reach other people's accounts or the parts of the interface reserved for the operator.
What you can expect from us
This is run by one person on one server. It will be unavailable sometimes, and there is no support rota and no response-time promise. Job boards change without notice and a source that stops working may stay broken until somebody notices. Backups are taken, and a restore is a manual operation.
There is no charge today. If a paid tier is introduced, existing accounts will be told before anything is billed, and these terms will change — which means a new version and a new acceptance.
Employers' content
Job postings belong to whoever wrote them. A job read from an employer's application system or a public feed is shown with a link to its posting: the employer's own page, the feed's page for it, or the page the ad says to apply on.
A job a member added from a web page, and that a person here approved, is shown to every member with its description, for at most thirty days from when the page was read, with the email addresses and phone numbers our scan finds in its title, its employer's name and its description removed. It is shown without its description if the page asked that its text not be shown elsewhere (by the words noarchive, nosnippet or none in its robots tag). After that its text is deleted.
Whoever runs such a page, holds rights in it, or is named in it can ask for the job to come down by writing to the address on the support page. On the day we read the request, we take the job down and delete its text, and links members paste to a site that asks not to be read again are refused from then on. A job already found not genuine or taken down is down already, and its text is kept for the 30 days of a contest (under Jobs you add), then deleted. Our page for site owners says what our requests are, and which of them a site can stop and how.
Jobs you add
Paste only links to job postings that are public, or that were shared with you so that you could apply. A job read from a link-sharing page (a Google Docs or SharePoint link, say) is never shown to any other member and never approved: nobody here confirms that it is genuine, though the person who runs this service can see it and may take it down if it is not.
For a job read from a web page, you choose what the page says, and type only what it leaves out. Never type an email address, a phone number or any other way to reach somebody: the form refuses them, and the job's link is the way to apply.
What you type. When you type a field because the page did not give it (a title, the employer, a country, whether the job is remote, or a description), you let us store it, show it to the person who checks the job, and, if that person approves the job, show it to every member with the job for as long as the job is kept here. You must have the right to let us. If you delete your account, what you typed stays with an approved job, without your name.
The check. A person checks every job added from a web page, except one read from a link-sharing page (above), and every job from the Bundesagentur für Arbeit, before anybody else can see it; a job on an employer page nobody here has checked waits for the check of that page. A job from a web page can be approved only if the employer's own website vouches for the page: the page is on the employer's domain, or the employer's website links to that exact page or, when the page is on a platform that gives each of its users an address of its own (such as acme.teamtailor.com), to any page at that address. Each decision comes with a notice on your account page that says what was decided and why. For a job from a web page, it is one of these:
- Approved: every member can see it, as under Employers' content.
- Kept private: it looks genuine, but nothing ties the page to the employer. It stays visible to you alone until it closes here.
- Declined: the posting has closed, the page is not one job, we already have the job, or we could not verify it. It is hidden and its text deleted.
- Published from somebody else's copy: the same job was approved from another member's copy of the page. Yours stays visible to you until it closes here.
- Found not genuine, or taken down after it was approved: it is hidden from everybody, and you and anybody who applied to it are warned, on the account page and by email.
- Removed on request: the site it was on, somebody who holds rights in it, or somebody it names asked. It is hidden and its text deleted. This says nothing against you.
Strikes and pauses. A job found not genuine or taken down is a strike against the account that added it, as an employer page found not genuine is against the account that first added a job from it, and after a set number of strikes adding jobs by link is switched off for that account. A decline because we could not verify a job is not a strike, but several of them within a month pause adding jobs from web pages for a while. So do several of your links in one day being refused for where they point, until that day ends (in UTC). Keeping a job private, the other declines and a removal on request cost you nothing. There are also limits on how many pages this server reads for you in a day and how many of your jobs can wait for a check at once; the add page says when you reach one.
If you think a decision is wrong. Write to the address on the support page within 30 days of the notice, and say which job. A person looks at it again. A job found not genuine or taken down keeps its text for those 30 days for this, even when its removal is asked for; a declined or removed job's text is deleted at once, and the decision and its reason are kept.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deletion removes your profile, your CV and its extracted contents, your preferences, your judgements, your application history and your records of the jobs you added. A job you added that a person approved stays, without your name. Deletion is not reversible after the grace period stated on that page.
An account may be closed from this side for the things under Your account — bulk collection, trying to reach other people's data, or uploading CVs that are not yours — and for adding jobs that are found not genuine again and again. You will be told, at the address on the account.
Liability
The service is provided as it is. It can be wrong about a posting, a salary, a location or a visa route, and you are the one deciding what to do with what it says. Nothing here limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited — including for death, personal injury, or intent and gross negligence.
Changes and law
A change to these terms is a new version. When one is published, the next page of your account you open asks you to accept it, and the version you accepted is recorded against your account with the date.
The service is operated from Germany and German law applies.
